European Street Cafe

With four locations around Jacksonville, European Street Cafe is one of the largest homegrown chains in the area. The odd color scheme and decor makes the place instantly recognizable and, as a result, I knew where each of them was located even before going inside for the first time about half a year ago.

European Street offers up a huge menu of deli sandwiches along with some wraps, pitas, and salads. I am repeatedly overwhelmed by the number of choices and find myself frantically trying to decide between a handful choices as the waiter or waitress approaches with their notepad in hand. Because I wasn't expecting a menu full of sandwiches my first time I left rather disappointed, partially because the item I settled on wasn't particularly good but last time was better as I stuck to standard European ingredients.

In addition to its sandwiches, European Street has a large selection of beers (20 on tap, over 150 in bottles) and they sell packs of many different varieties inside the little "gift shop" area where you can also pick up some imported candies and chocolates. Happy hour is from 2-6pm everyday and that mean 2-for-1 draft beers, $1 off glasses of wine, and $2 off bottles of wine.

Being unique to Jacksonville, visiting at least one European Street Cafe is a requirement for anyone living in the area or visiting for an extended period of time. Just make sure you have plenty of time to sober up if you go during happy hour.
